About the project

Making Room in History is a TEI project that uses customized text encoding to reveal patterns in the engagement of early modern historical texts with the medieval, the poetic, the historical, and the imperial.

The project developed out of several years of research into the ways that early modern historians found or made room for methods and materials that were elsewhere, quite often in the very same texts, dismissed as implausible fictions, hopelessly obsolete medievalisms, or the stuff of poesy. Making Room in History is an interdisciplinary exploration of disciplinary formations, working to build a more complete picture of early modern literary and historiographic cultures.
